When people think of actors, a couple things come to mind. Most people think of the Brad Pitts and the Will Smiths and other big names, and with these names come the bright lights, the red carpet events and other lavish opportunities. What people fail to recognize is the process to actually reach that level. This lifestyle can get you fatigued at a very quick rate if you do not stay headstrong. Up and coming actors follow a pattern that starts with honing your craft, rather that be by reading books, or taking more acting classes because you are never finished learning. EVER. At the same time you are honing this craft you are also going to need experience on camera, so this means that you will be auditioning for roles in short films, films, commercials, television, industrials, you name it! For every 10 auditions you might receive 1 to 2 call backs if you are lucky. You can already see how this can become exhausting. Being rejected can take a toll on you if you are not mentally strong. You have to realize and accept that fact that there is nothing wrong with you, it is just that the director/producer wanted to go a different route with the character. The journey gets easier if you are signed to an agency, but most people think once you get the agent then your life will turn 180 degrees and everything will be so much easier. Although it is easier to an extent, the process is very strenuous. Just because you have an agent does not, let me repeat DOES NOT mean that you will automatically be booked for work. You still have to go through auditions just like the other people. This is still true with Tom Cruise and Christian Bale and others! Sure it gets your foot in the door, but once your foot is there the rest is up to you to nail your monologue, or cold read, or whatever it is that is asked of you. This is why it is necessary to work on your craft.
Up and coming actors fail to live that lavish life that i briefly spoke on earlier. Actually, most of the work that they will have to do will pay on a very minimal level, if it does at all. Most jobs will just you title credits, minimal exposure, and a meal for the day! This is why most beginning actors still have a part time job! The same goes with me as i drive for Lyft and Uber (which i recommend that people try and get into because it is very easy and rewarding unless your passenger throws up in your car but that is a different story that i will speak on once i am finished being pissed off about). At any rate, I love the life of an up and coming actor and i believe that all this hard work that i am putting in right now will help me reach my dreams one day. I think my life as if I am makings trips to the bank and depositing money right now. The "money" in this case is hard work, experience, connections, and actual money to a degree (although its not millions, yet). But people, know there comes a time in life when you can finally go to the bank and cash that check and when its time to withdraw all that was deposited. When that time comes you can finally live that lavish lifestyle. For me, that would mean that I can finally buy the best mother on the ENTIRE planet a house, car, and potentially a motorcycle if she is still riding! Also, I will be able to start campaigns for kids who are in less fortunate conditions since i have worked with a lot of them I made myself a promise that I will make a change once i reach that level. For having just starting my journey earlier this year i have actually been really blessed! I have been on just about every television show that is filmed in Chicago, ranging from Chicago PD, to Chicago Fire, to the award winning show Empire. I have also had to wonderful opportunity to work with Melissa McCarthy in her film and also Jabari Parker in a commercial. I have ever been privileged to work with some of the dopest rap duos in Chicago that go by the name of The Palmer Squares. I am nowhere close to where my end goal is, but i will get there with my hard work and determination.
As always, Never Stay Stagnant!
